Murphys Memorial Day Weekend Update
We are all looking forward to a time when we can welcome you back to Murphys and we are moving in that direction in conformance with California’s reopening roadmap. Murphys is currently in a full, expanded Stage 2 opening which allows for the opening of our retail and dine-in businesses to residents of the area for in-person shopping and dining. The dine-in opening guidelines may also apply to those wineries and tasting rooms that offer food. Take out meals and curbside pickup are still the preferred options and available at many of our businesses so consider taking that meal home with you or having a picnic outside in this lovely weather, or calling in advance and picking your purchases up at the door.
Not all of our businesses are ready to meet all the requirements for reopening so we encourage you to always check with the individual businesses before planning a trip to town. Each business’s social media pages may be the best source of up to date information. Some businesses may require a reservation and others may not be quite ready to be open this weekend. The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance has prepared a directory of their member tasting rooms to help you identify those who will be open for Memorial Day weekend.
Something to keep in mind is that California is still under a Stay at Home order and, therefore, our lodging, vacation rentals, and campgrounds remain closed to all but essential workers with documentation.
If you plan to be in town this weekend there are several things for you to keep in mind. Businesses are required to limit the occupancy and enforce social distancing requirements, perform enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of their premises, require face coverings in some instances, and take other measures intended to keep you and their staff healthy. Please come prepared with your hand sanitizer and face covering and cooperate with business staff who request you wait outside, make a reservation in advance, wash or sanitize your hands before coming inside, wear a face covering when not eating or drinking, or take other actions. We are all still getting used to the new requirements so please be patient with us as we all figure it out together.
You may have heard that Murphys has different requirements than other areas of the state, that is not true except to the extent that Calaveras County has qualified to implement the full, expanded Stage 2 openings along with many other rural counties. We must remain healthy in order to remain open and, ultimately, open more of our businesses. Please help us do that so we can all look forward to a time when we can get together and enjoy all the activities that Murphys has to offer!
Murphys traditional Memorial Day band concert by the Calaveras Community Band will not take place this year as gatherings in the Park remain prohibited.
