The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride – September 24th, 2017
RIDING DAPPER FOR A CAUSE: WHERE WE’VE COME FROM AND WHERE WE’RE HEADED On
On Sunday September 24th 2017, tens of thousands of distinguished gentlefolk in hundreds of cities worldwide will don their cravats, tweak their moustaches, press their tweed and sit astride their classic and vintage styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together.
On Sunday September 24th a single rider, Clay Baker of San Jose, CA will be coming to Murphys, CA to support the Movember Foundation in their effort to raise awareness and funds for research and support of men’s prostrate cancer and suicide prevention. In big cities around the world riders will dress dapper and ride their vintage motorcycles for men’s health. This year, for the first time ever, Murphys, CA will be represented by Clay Baker on his vintage Norton Commando. The ride is small, but the cause is huge. I hope other riders will register for the Murphys ride and turn out for the event, or simply provide their support on my sponsorship page. Clay will be in Murphys for the Ironstone Concours where he is showing two bikes from his collection, a 1972 Honda 750 Four and a 1972 Norton Commando.

That first ride in 2012 brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged the founder to consider how it could be used to support a worthy cause.
