October 21, 2012 – Native Sons of the Golden West Pancake Breakfast – Already famous for their Corned Beef and Cabbage offered in conjunction with Murphys Irish Day, and their popular monthly dinners, the group has been applying its culinary skills to morning fare. The breakfast consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee. The cost is six dollars for adults and three dollars for kids ten and under. It is served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Native Sons Hall on the third Sunday each month.

May 19, 2013 – Book Signing at The Spice Tin — Author Nancy Keeney Forster will be in to sign copies of her A Culinary Journey on May 19th from 12:00 to 2:00.  In 1949 less than two months after her marriage to Cliff Forster, Nancy began a diplomatic hostess career spanning the Philippines to Washington DC and back to Japan for over 30 years.  Nancy shares wonderful recipes and the social history that accompanied them.  Don’t miss this opportunity to meet an amazing woman who will share some incredible history through her experiences.

May 21, 2013 – Vietnamese Cooking at Marisolio- This promises to be a wonderful learning experience.  Our guest instructor, Annie Heinrich, a Modesto Junior College Instructor, will share her expertise in preparing fresh shrimp spring rolls with rice paper wrappings and the special sauces that are very important in Vietnamese cooking…..sauces that you can’t just buy in a jar. Everyone is invited to the 64th annual Murphys Homecoming in our historic community park. There is no admission charge and activities will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with a concert by the Calaveras Community Band. At noon, the traditional Old Timers Luncheon will be served free of charge to anyone who has attained the age of 70 and has lived in the Murphys, Vallecito, Douglas Flat area for at least ten years. This popular event is made possible by a generous contribution from the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Ruby Parlor #46. Those participating in Murphys Homecoming who do not meet the “old timers” criteria need not go hungry. The Community Club will be selling food and beer, wine and soft drinks will also be available for purchase.

Duck races will be held for the benefit of the Calaveras Humane Society. Participants will rent a numbered duck for each race.  The little yellow ducks will make their way down Murphys Creek with the first three to cross the finish line winning a prize for his or her “owner.” There will be three races for adults and two for kids, with appropriate prizes.

October 21, 2012 – Native Sons of the Golden West Pancake Breakfast – Already famous for their Corned Beef and Cabbage offered in conjunction with Murphys Irish Day, and their popular monthly dinners, the group has been applying its culinary skills to morning fare. The breakfast consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee. The cost is six dollars for adults and three dollars for kids ten and under. It is served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Native Sons Hall on the third Sunday each month.
